Research, innovation and personal customer service – the keys to success
Based in Oxford, England, Spice Applications Systems was founded in 1999 by Peter King. A successful entrepreneur and businessman, he had seen the benefits of using electrostatics within other industries and realised the potential for transferring it into the food and pharmaceutical manufacturing sectors.
Over the last decade, the company has invested significantly in research and development, working closely with manufacturers and their teams to achieve success and deliver substantial benefits and cost savings within the production process.
Among its significant milestones has been the development of the highly-successful Death of the Drum unit – also known as Cloud Cover – enabling manufacturers to replace traditional rotating drums with a unique covered chamber where electrostatic flavouring takes place.
Highly-acclaimed, Death of the Drum dramatically improves powder and flavouring coverage while at the same time reducing product breakage, making it ideal for fragile items such as baked pasta snacks.
For traditional product lines, where a drum is already installed, SAS’s electrostatic spice applicator can easily be fitted (retrofit), ensuring manufacturers can still take advantage of the benefits of electrostatic technology, without the need for major investment in new equipment.
Today, Peter King heads a team of engineers and is constantly in demand for one-to-one consultations with customers who are looking for bespoke solutions to their production line problems.
Ongoing product development and refinement – often tailored to meet specific customer requirements – means SAS’s electrostatic equipment, combined with the company’s expertise, knowledge of the market and ability to deliver cost-effective results, is highly sought after.
Its equipment is installed in food manufacturing plants across the world, including Europe, Asia and the USA, and the company has made strong inroads into Eastern Europe and the Middle East. It is particularly strong in sectors such as confectionery, snacks, cereals and pet foods, where many hundreds of units have been installed.
Training, after sales and technical support is provided by a worldwide network of engineers.
